¹베냐민 땅 아나돗의 제사장들 중의 하나인 힐기야의 아들 예레미야의 말들이라. The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

²아몬의 아들 유다 왕 요시야 시대 곧 그의 통치 제십삼년에 주의 말씀이 예레미야에게 임하고 To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

³그것이 또한 요시야의 아들 유다 왕 여호야김 시대부터 요시야의 아들 유다 왕 시드기야의 제십일년 말 곧 다섯째 달에 예루살렘이 포로로 끌려갈 때까지 임하니라. It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

⁴그때에 주의 말씀이 내게 임하니라. 이르시되, Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁵내가 너를 배 속에 짓기 전에 너를 알았고 네가 태에서 나오기 전에 내가 너를 거룩히 구별하였으며 너를 민족들을 향한 대언자로 세웠노라, 하시기에 해설 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

⁶그때에 내가 이르되, 아, 주 하나님이여! 보소서, 나는 아이라 말을 할 수 없나이다, 하니라. 해설 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD ! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

⁷¶그러나 주께서 내게 이르시되, 나는 아이니이다, 하지 말고 내가 너를 보내어 말하게 할 모든 자에게 너는 가며 내가 네게 무엇을 명령하든지 너는 말할지니라. But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

⁸내가 너와 함께하여 너를 건져 내리니 그들의 얼굴을 두려워하지 말라. 주가 말하노라, 하시고 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD .

⁹그때에 주께서 자신의 손을 내미사 내 입에 대시며 주께서 내게 이르시되, 보라, 내가 내 말들을 네 입에 두었노라. Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

¹⁰보라, 내가 이 날 너를 민족들과 왕국들 위에 세워 그것들을 뿌리째 뽑고 무너뜨리며 파멸시키고 파괴하며 세우고 심게 하였느니라, 하시니라. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

¹¹¶또 주의 말씀이 내게 임하니라. 이르시되, 예레미야야, 네가 무엇을 보느냐? 하시기에 내가 이르되, 내가 아몬드나무 막대기를 보나이다, 하매 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

¹²이에 주께서 내게 이르시되, 네가 잘 보았도다. 내가 그 일을 이루기 위해 내 말을 재촉하리라, 하시니라. Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

¹³주의 말씀이 두 번째 내게 임하니라. 이르시되, 네가 무엇을 보느냐? 하시기에 내가 이르되, 내가 끓는 가마솥을 보는데 그것의 표면이 북쪽을 향하고 있나이다, 하니 And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

¹⁴그때에 주께서 내게 이르시되, 북쪽에서 재앙이 쏟아져 나와 그 땅의 모든 거주민들에게 임하리라. Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

¹⁵보라, 내가 북쪽 왕국들의 모든 가족들을 부르리라. 주가 말하노라. 그들이 와서 저마다 예루살렘 성문 어귀에 자기 왕좌를 정하고 그곳의 사방 모든 성벽과 유다의 모든 도시를 치리라. For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD ; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

¹⁶그들이 나를 버리고 다른 신들에게 분향하며 자기 손으로 만든 것들에게 경배하였은즉 내가 그들의 모든 사악함에 대하여 그들을 향해 나의 심판을 선고하리라. And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

¹⁷¶그러므로 너는 네 허리를 동이고 일어나 내가 네게 명령하는 모든 것을 그들에게 말하라. 그들의 얼굴을 대할 때에 놀라지 말라. 내가 그들 앞에서 너를 당혹스럽게 할까 염려하노라. Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

¹⁸보라, 내가 이 날 너를 그 온 땅과 유다의 왕들과 그것의 통치자들과 그것의 제사장들과 그 땅의 백성을 칠 방벽을 세운 도시, 쇠기둥, 놋 성벽이 되게 하였노라. For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

¹⁹그들이 너와 싸우되 너를 이기지 못하리니 내가 너와 함께하여 너를 건져 내리라. 주가 말하노라. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD , to deliver thee.
