세례자 요한의 선포

¹하느님의 아들 예수 그리스도에 관한 복음의 시작. The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;

²예언자 이사야의 글에, "이제 내가 일꾼을 너보다 먼저 보내니 그가 네 갈 길을 미리 닦아놓으리라." 하였고, As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

³또 "광야에서 외치는 이의 소리가 들린다. '너희는 주의 길을 닦고 그의 길을 고르게 하여라.'" 하였는데, 기록되어 있는 대로 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

⁴세례자 요한이 광야에 나타나 "회개하고 세례를 받아라. 그러면 죄를 용서받을 것이다." 하고 선포하였다. John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

⁵그 때 온 유다 지방과 예루살렘에 사는 모든 사람이 그에게 와서 죄를 고백하며 요르단 강에서 세례를 받았다. And there went out unto him all the land of Judæa, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

⁶요한은 낙타털 옷을 입고 허리에 가죽띠를 두르고 메뚜기와 들꿀을 먹으며 살았다. And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;

⁷그는 사람들에게 이렇게 외쳤다. "나보다 더 훌륭한 분이 내 뒤에 오신다. 나는 몸을 굽혀 그의 신발끈을 풀어드릴 만한 자격조차 없는 사람이다. And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

⁸나는 너희에게 물로 세례를 베풀었지만 그분은 성령으로 세례를 베푸실 것이다." I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

세례를 받으신 예수

⁹그 무렵에 예수께서는 갈릴래아 나자렛에서 요르단 강으로 요한을 찾아와 세례를 받으셨다. And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

¹⁰그리고 물에서 올라오실 때 하늘이 갈라지며 성령이 비둘기 모양으로 당신에게 내려오시는 것을 보셨다. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

¹¹그 때 하늘에서 "너는 내 사랑하는 아들, 내 마음에 드는 아들이다." 하는 소리가 들려왔다. And there came a voice from heaven, saying , Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

광야에서 받으신 유혹

¹²그 뒤에 곧 성령이 예수를 광야로 내보내셨다. And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.

¹³예수께서는 사십 일 동안 그 곳에 계시면서 사탄에게 유혹을 받으셨다. 그 동안 예수께서는 들짐승들과 함께 지내셨는데 천사들이 그분의 시중을 들었다. And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

갈릴래아 전도 시작

¹⁴요한이 잡힌 뒤에 예수께서 갈릴래아에 오셔서 하느님의 복음을 전파하시며 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

¹⁵"때가 다 되어 하느님의 나라가 다가왔다. 회개하고 이 복음을 믿어라." 하셨다. 해설 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

첫 번째로 부르심 받은 어부 네 사람

¹⁶예수께서 갈릴래아 호숫가를 지나가시다가 호수에서 그물을 던지고 있는 어부 시몬과 그의 동생 안드레아를 보시고 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

¹⁷"나를 따라오너라. 내가 너희를 사람 낚는 어부가 되게 하겠다." 하고 말씀하셨다. And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.

¹⁸그들은 곧 그물을 버리고 예수를 따라갔다. And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.

¹⁹예수께서 조금 더 가시다가 제베대오의 아들 야고보와 그의 동생 요한이 배에서 그물을 손질하고 있는 것을 보시고 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.

²⁰부르시자 그들은 아버지 제베대오와 삯꾼들을 배에 남겨둔 채 예수를 따라나섰다. And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

악령 들린 사람을 고치신 예수

²¹예수의 일행은 가파르나움으로 갔다. 안식일에 예수께서는 회당에 들어가 가르치셨는데 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.

²²사람들은 그 가르침을 듣고 놀랐다. 그 가르치시는 것이 율법학자들과는 달리 권위가 있었기 때문이다. And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

²³그 때 더러운 악령 들린 사람 하나가 회당에 있다가 큰소리로 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,

²⁴"나자렛 예수님, 어찌하여 우리를 간섭하시려는 것입니까? 우리를 없애려고 오셨습니까? 나는 당신이 누구신지 압니다. 당신은 하느님께서 보내신 거룩한 분이십니다." 하고 외쳤다. Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

²⁵그래서 예수께서 "입을 다물고 이 사람에게서 나가거라." 하고 꾸짖으시자 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

²⁶더러운 악령은 그 사람에게 발작을 일으켜놓고 큰소리를 지르며 떠나갔다. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

²⁷이것을 보고 모두들 놀라 "이게 어찌 된 일이냐? 이것은 권위 있는 새 교훈이다. 그의 명령에는 더러운 악령들도 굴복하는구나!" 하며 서로 수군거렸다. And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

²⁸예수의 소문은 삽시간에 온 갈릴래아와 그 근방에 두루 퍼졌다. And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

많은 병자를 고치신 예수

²⁹얼마 뒤에 예수께서 회당에서 나와 야고보와 요한과 함께 시몬과 안드레아의 집에 들어가셨다. And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

³⁰때마침 시몬의 장모가 열병으로 누워 있었는데 사람들이 그 사정을 예수께 알렸다. But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.

³¹예수께서 그 부인 곁으로 가서 손을 잡아 일으키시자 열이 내리고 부인은 그들의 시중을 들었다. And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

³²해가 지고 날이 저물었을 때에 사람들이 병자와 마귀 들린 사람들을 모두 예수께 데려왔으며 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.

³³온 동네 사람들이 문 앞에 모여들었다. And all the city was gathered together at the door.

³⁴예수께서는 온갖 병자들을 고쳐주시고 많은 마귀를 쫓아내시며 자기 일을 입 밖에 내지 말라고 당부하셨다. 마귀들은 예수가 누구신지를 알고 있었기 때문이다. And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.

전도여행

³⁵다음날 새벽 예수께서는 먼동이 트기 전에 일어나 외딴 곳으로 가시어 기도하고 계셨다. And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

³⁶그 때 시몬의 일행이 예수를 찾아다니다가 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.

³⁷만나서 "모두들 선생님을 찾고 있습니다." 하고 말하였다. And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.

³⁸예수께서는 그들에게 "이 근방 다음 동네에도 가자. 거기에서도 전도해야 한다. 나는 이 일을 하러 왔다." 하고 말씀하셨다. And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.

³⁹이렇게 갈릴래아 지방을 두루 찾아 여러 회당에서 전도하시며 마귀를 쫓아내셨다. And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.

나병환자를 고치신 예수

⁴⁰나병환자 하나가 예수께 와서 무릎을 꿇고 애원하며 "선생님은 하고자만 하시면 저를 깨끗이 고쳐주실 수 있습니다." 하고 말씀 드렸다. And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

⁴¹예수께서 측은한 마음이 드시어 그에게 손을 갖다 대시며 "그렇게 해주겠다. 깨끗하게 되어라." 하시자 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

⁴²그는 곧 나병 증세가 사라지면서 깨끗이 나았다. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

⁴³예수께서 곧 그를 보내시면서 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;

⁴⁴"아무에게도 말하지 말고 다만 사제에게 가서 네 몸을 보이고 모세가 명한 대로 예물을 드려 네가 깨끗해진 것을 그들에게 증명하여라." 하고 엄하게 이르셨다. And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

⁴⁵그러나 그는 물러가서 이 일을 널리 선전하며 퍼뜨렸기 때문에 그 때부터 예수께서는 드러나게 동네로 들어가지 못하시고 동네에서 떨어진 외딴 곳에 머물러 계셨다. 그래도 사람들은 사방에서 예수께 모여들었다. But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
