1잠언 · 한글 킹제임스

¹다윗의 아들 이스라엘 왕 솔로몬의 잠언이라. The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

²이것은 지혜와 훈계를 알게 하며 명철의 말씀들을 파악하게 하고 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

³지혜와 정의와 판단의 공의와 공평의 훈계를 받게 하며 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

⁴단순한 자에게 민감함을 주고 젊은 자에게 지식과 분별을 주기 위한 것이니 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

⁵지혜로운 자는 듣고 학식을 더할 것이요, 명철한 자는 지혜로운 권고들을 얻어서 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

⁶잠언과 해석과 지혜로운 자들의 말들과 그들의 은밀한 말들을 깨달을지니라. To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

⁷¶주를 두려워하는 것이 지식의 시작이거늘 어리석은 자들은 지혜와 훈계를 멸시하느니라. 해설 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

⁸내 아들아, 네 아버지의 훈계를 듣고 네 어머니의 법을 버리지 말라. My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

⁹그것들이 네 머리에 은혜의 장식이 되고 네 목에 사슬이 되리로다. For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

¹⁰¶내 아들아, 죄인들이 너를 꾈지라도 너는 동의하지 말라. My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

¹¹그들이 말하기를, 우리와 함께 가자. 우리가 숨어서 기다리다가 피를 흘리자. 우리가 무죄한 자들을 까닭 없이 몰래 숨어서 기다리다가 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

¹²무덤같이 그들을 산 채로 삼키며 구덩이로 내려가는 자들같이 통째로 삼키자. Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

¹³우리가 모든 귀한 재물을 얻으며 노략물로 우리의 집들을 채우리니 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

¹⁴너의 제비를 우리 가운데서 뽑고 우리가 다 돈주머니를 하나만 두자, 할지라도 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

¹⁵내 아들아, 너는 그들과 함께 그 길로 다니지 말라. 네 발을 금하여 그들의 행로에서 떠나라. My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

¹⁶그들의 발은 악을 향해 달려가며 피를 흘리려고 서두르느니라. For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

¹⁷참으로 새가 보는 데서 그물을 치는 것은 허사로다. Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

¹⁸그들이 자기 피를 흘리려고 숨어서 기다리며 자기 생명을 해하려고 몰래 숨어서 기다리나니 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

¹⁹이익을 탐하는 모든 자의 길들도 이러하여 그 이익이 그것의 소유자들의 생명을 앗아가느니라. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

²⁰¶지혜가 밖에서 외치며 거리에서 자기 목소리를 내고 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

²¹군중이 모이는 중요한 곳과 성문 통로들에서 외치며 도시 안에서 자기의 말들을 내어 이르되, She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying ,

²²단순한 자들아, 너희가 어느 때까지 단순함을 사랑하겠느냐? 비웃는 자들이 어느 때까지 자기들의 비웃는 것을 기뻐하고 어리석은 자들이 지식을 미워하겠느냐? How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

²³너희는 내 책망을 듣고 돌이키라. 보라, 내가 내 영을 너희에게 부어 주며 내 말들을 너희에게 알려 주리라. Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

²⁴¶내가 불렀으나 너희가 거절하였도다. 내가 내 손을 내밀었으나 아무도 중시하지 아니하였으며 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

²⁵도리어 너희가 내 모든 권고를 무시하고 내 책망을 전혀 원치 아니하였은즉 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

²⁶나도 네 재난을 보고 웃으며 네 두려움이 이를 때에 조롱하리니 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

²⁷그때에 네 두려움이 황폐함같이 이르고 네 멸망이 회오리바람같이 이르며 네게 고난과 번민이 이르리라. When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

²⁸그때에 그들이 나를 부를 터이나 내가 대답하지 아니하겠고 그들이 일찍 나를 찾아도 나를 발견하지 못하리니 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

²⁹이는 그들이 지식을 미워하고 주 두려워하기를 택하지 아니하며 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD :

³⁰내 권고를 전혀 원치 아니하고 내 모든 책망을 멸시하였기 때문이니라. They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

³¹그러므로 그들이 자기 길에서 난 열매를 먹으며 자기 계략들로 채워지리니 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

³²단순한 자들의 돌이켜 떠나감이 그들을 죽이며 어리석은 자들의 형통함이 그들을 파멸시키리라. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

³³그러나 누구든지 내 말에 귀를 기울이는 자는 안전히 거하며 재난의 두려움에서 벗어나 평안하리로다. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
