인사

1예수 그리스도의 사도인 베드로가, 본도와 갈라디아와 갑바도기아와 아시아와 비두니아에 흩어져서 사는 나그네들인, 택하심을 입은 이들에게 이 편지를 씁니다. 해설 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2하나님 아버지께서 여러분을 미리 아시고 성령으로 거룩하게 해 주셔서, 여러분은 순종하게 되고, 예수 그리스도의 피 뿌림을 받게 되었습니다. 여러분에게 은혜와 평화가 더욱 가득 차기를 빕니다. Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

산 소망

3우리 주 예수 그리스도의 하나님 아버지께 찬양을 드립시다. 하나님께서는 그 크신 자비로 우리를 새로 태어나게 하셨습니다. 그리하여 그는, 죽은 사람들 가운데서 예수 그리스도가 부활하심으로 말미암아 우리로 하여금 산 소망을 갖게 해 주셨으며, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4썩지 않고 더러워지지 않고 낡아 없어지지 않는 유산을 물려받게 하셨습니다. 이 유산은 여러분을 위하여 하늘에 간직되어 있습니다. To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5하나님께서는 여러분의 믿음을 보시고 그의 능력으로 여러분을 보호해 주시며, 마지막 때에 나타나기로 되어 있는 구원을 얻게 해 주십니다. Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6그러므로 여러분이 지금 잠시동안 여러 가지 시련 속에서 어쩔 수 없이 슬픔을 당하게 되었다 하더라도 기뻐하십시오. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7하나님께서는 여러분의 믿음을 단련하셔서, 불로 단련하지만 결국 없어지고 마는 금보다 더 귀한 것이 되게 하시며, 예수 그리스도께서 나타나실 때에 여러분에게 칭찬과 영광과 존귀를 얻게 해 주십니다. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8여러분은 그리스도를 본 일이 없으면서도 사랑하며, 지금 그를 보지 못하면서도 믿으며, 말로 다 표현할 수 없는 즐거움과 영광을 누리면서 기뻐하고 있습니다. Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9여러분은 믿음의 목표 곧 여러분의 영혼의 구원을 받고 있는 것입니다. Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
10예언자들은 이 구원을 자세히 살피고 연구하였습니다. 그들은 여러분이 받을 은혜를 예언하였습니다. Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
11누구에게 또는 어느 때에 이런 일이 일어날 것인지를 그들이 연구할 때에, 그들 안에 계신 그리스도의 영이 그리스도에게 닥칠 고난과 그 뒤에 올 영광을 미리 증언하여 드러내 주셨습니다. Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
12예언자들은 자기들이 섬긴 그 일들이, 자기들을 위한 것이 아니라 여러분을 위한 것임을 계시로 알게 되었습니다. 그 일들은 하늘로부터 보내주신 성령을 힘입어서 여러분에게 복음을 전한 사람들이 이제 여러분에게 선포한 것입니다. 그 일들은 천사들도 보고 싶어하는 것입니다. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

불러주심에 따르는 거룩한 생활

13그러므로 여러분은 마음을 단단히 먹고 정신을 차려서, 예수 그리스도께서 나타나실 때에 여러분이 받을 은혜를 끝까지 바라고 있으십시오. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14순종하는 자녀로서 여러분은 전에 모르고 좇았던 욕망을 따라 살지 말고, As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
15여러분을 불러주신 그 거룩하신 분을 따라 모든 행실을 거룩하게 하십시오. But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16성경에 기록하기를 “내가 거룩하니 너희도 거룩하여라” 하였습니다. Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
17그리고 사람을 겉모양으로 판단하지 않으시고 각 사람의 행위대로 심판하시는 분을 여러분이 아버지라고 부르고 있으니, 여러분은 나그네 삶을 사는 동안 두려운 마음으로 살아가십시오. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:
18여러분은 조상으로부터 물려받은 여러분의 헛된 생활방식에서 해방되었습니다. 여러분도 아시지만, 그것은 은이나 금과 같은 썩어질 것으로 된 것이 아니라, 해설 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19흠이 없고 티가 없는 어린 양의 피와 같은 그리스도의 귀한 피로 되었습니다. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20하나님께서는 이 그리스도를 세상이 창조되기 전에 미리 아셨고, 이 마지막 때에 여러분을 위하여 나타내셨습니다. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21여러분은 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님을 믿고 있습니다. 하나님은 그리스도를 죽은 사람 가운데서 살리시고 그에게 영광을 주셨습니다. 그래서 여러분의 믿음과 소망은 하나님을 향해 있습니다. Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
22여러분은 진리에 순종함으로 영혼을 정결하게 하여서 꾸밈없이 서로 사랑하기에 이르렀으니, [순결한] 마음으로 서로 뜨겁게 사랑하십시오. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
23여러분은 다시 태어났습니다. 그것은 썩을 씨로 그렇게 된 것이 아니라, 썩지 않을 씨 곧 살아 계시고 영원하신 하나님의 말씀으로 그렇게 되었습니다. 해설 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
24“모든 육체는 풀과 같고, 그 모든 영광은 풀의 꽃과 같다. 풀은 마르고 꽃은 떨어지되, For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
25주님의 말씀은 영원히 있다.” 이것이 여러분에게 복음으로 전해진 말씀입니다. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
