2지혜 있는 자들아 내 말을 들으며 지식 있는 자들아 내게 귀를 기울이라Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.
3입이 음식물의 맛을 분별함 같이 귀가 말을 분별하나니For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.
4우리가 정의를 가려내고 무엇이 선한가 우리끼리 알아보자Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
5욥이 말하기를 내가 의로우나 하나님이 내 의를 부인하셨고For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.
6내가 정당함에도 거짓말쟁이라 하였고 나는 허물이 없으나 화살로 상처를 입었노라 하니Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
7어떤 사람이 욥과 같으랴 욥이 비방하기를 물마시듯 하며What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?
8악한 일을 하는 자들과 한패가 되어 악인과 함께 다니면서Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.
9이르기를 사람이 하나님을 기뻐하나 무익하다 하는구나For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
10그러므로 너희 총명한 자들아 내 말을 들으라 하나님은 악을 행하지 아니하시며 전능자는 결코 불의를 행하지 아니하시고Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
11사람의 행위를 따라 갚으사 각각 그의 행위대로 받게 하시나니For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
12진실로 하나님은 악을 행하지 아니하시며 전능자는 공의를 굽히지 아니하시느니라Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
13누가 땅을 그에게 맡겼느냐 누가 온 세상을 그에게 맡겼느냐Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?
14그가 만일 뜻을 정하시고 그의 영과 목숨을 거두실진대If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
15모든 육체가 다 함께 죽으며 사람은 흙으로 돌아가리라All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
16만일 네가 총명이 있거든 이것을 들으며 내 말소리에 귀를 기울이라If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
17정의를 미워하시는 이시라면 어찌 그대를 다스리시겠느냐 의롭고 전능하신 이를 그대가 정죄하겠느냐Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?
18그는 왕에게라도 무용지물이라 하시며 지도자들에게라도 악하다 하시며Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?
19고관을 외모로 대하지 아니하시며 가난한 자들 앞에서 부자의 낯을 세워주지 아니하시나니 이는 그들이 다 그의 손으로 지으신 바가 됨이라How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
20그들은 한밤중에 순식간에 죽나니 백성은 떨며 사라지고 세력 있는 자도 사람의 손을 빌리지 않고 제거함을 당하느니라In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
21그는 사람의 길을 주목하시며 사람의 모든 걸음을 감찰하시나니For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.
22행악자는 숨을 만한 흑암이나 사망의 그늘이 없느니라There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
23하나님은 사람을 심판하시기에 오래 생각하실 것이 없으시니For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
24세력 있는 자를 조사할 것 없이 꺾으시고 다른 사람을 세워 그를 대신하게 하시느니라He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.
25그러므로 그는 그들의 행위를 아시고 그들을 밤 사이에 뒤집어엎어 흩으시는도다Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
26그들을 악한 자로 여겨 사람의 눈 앞에서 치심은He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
27그들이 그를 떠나고 그의 모든 길을 깨달아 알지 못함이라Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
28그들이 이와 같이 하여 가난한 자의 부르짖음이 그에게 상달하게 하며 빈궁한 사람의 부르짖음이 그에게 들리게 하느니라So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.
29주께서 침묵하신다고 누가 그를 정죄하며 그가 얼굴을 가리신다면 누가 그를 뵈올 수 있으랴 그는 민족에게나 인류에게나 동일하시니When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
30이는 경건하지 못한 자가 권세를 잡아 백성을 옭아매지 못하게 하려 하심이니라That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
31그대가 하나님께 아뢰기를 내가 죄를 지었사오니 다시는 범죄하지 아니하겠나이다Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement , I will not offend any more:
32내가 깨닫지 못하는 것을 내게 가르치소서 내가 악을 행하였으나 다시는 아니하겠나이다 하였는가That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
33하나님께서 그대가 거절한다고 하여 그대의 뜻대로 속전을 치르시겠느냐 그러면 그대가 스스로 택할 것이요 내가 할 것이 아니니 그대는 아는 대로 말하라Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.
34슬기로운 자와 내 말을 듣는 지혜 있는 사람은 반드시 내게 말하기를Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
35욥이 무식하게 말하니 그의 말이 지혜롭지 못하도다 하리라Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
36나는 욥이 끝까지 시험 받기를 원하노니 이는 그 대답이 악인과 같음이라My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
37그가 그의 죄에 반역을 더하며 우리와 어울려 손뼉을 치며 하나님을 거역하는 말을 많이 하는구나For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.
