솔로몬이 지혜를 구하다

¹다윗의 아들 솔로몬이 임금으로 다스리면서 자신의 강함을 나타내 보였다. 여호와 그의 하나님이 그와 함께하시고 그를 매우 위대하게 하셨기 때문이다. And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.

²솔로몬이 온 이스라엘, 곧 천명대장들과 백명대장들과 재판관들과 온 이스라엘의 모든 지도자들과 가문의 우두머리들을 불렀다. Then Solomon spake unto all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to every governor in all Israel, the chief of the fathers.

³솔로몬과 또 그와 함께 있던 온 무리가 기브온에 있는 높은곳(산당)으로 갔다. 거기에는 여호와의 종 모세가 광야에서 만든 하나님의 만남의 천막이 있었기 때문이다. So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

⁴그러나 하나님의 상자(궤)는 다윗이 기럇여아림으로부터 자신이 마련해 둔 곳으로 올려다 놓았다. 그 상자(궤)를 위해 예루살렘에 천막을 쳐 두었던 것이다. But the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place which David had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Jerusalem.

⁵우리의 아들이자 후르의 손자인 브살렐이 만든 놋제단은 여호와께서 머무시는 천막 앞에 놓여 있었다. 솔로몬과 그 모인 무리가 그 제단으로 찾아갔다. Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD : and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.

⁶솔로몬은 거기 곧 놋제단 있는 곳 여호와 앞으로 올라갔다. 만남의 천막에 딸린 제단이었다. 그러고는 그 위에 다태우는제물(번제물) 1,000마리를 올려 드렸다. And Solomon went up thither to the brasen altar before the LORD , which was at the tabernacle of the congregation, and offered a thousand burnt offerings upon it.

⁷그날 밤에 하나님이 솔로몬에게 나타나셨다. 그러고는 그에게 말씀하셨다. “내게 달라고 하렴! 내가 너에게 무엇을 줄까?” In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee.

⁸솔로몬이 하나님께 대답했다. “주님이 친히 나의 아버지 다윗에게 크고도 한결같은 사랑을 베푸셨습니다. 그러고는 나를 임금으로 삼아 그의 뒤를 잇게 하셨습니다. And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead.

⁹이제, 여호와 하나님, 나의 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀이 믿을 만하다는 것을 드러내 보여 주십시오. 주님이 친히 나를 땅의 먼지만큼이나 많은 백성 위에 임금으로 삼으셨으니까요. Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude.

¹⁰이제 지혜와 지식을 내게 주십시오! 그리하여 내가 이 백성을 잘 이끌도록 해 주십시오. 그렇지 않으면, 그 누가 주님의 이 큰 백성을 재판하며 다스리겠습니까?” Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great?

¹¹그러자 하나님이 솔로몬에게 말씀하셨다. “너의 마음에 이런 생각이 있었구나. 그 때문에 네가 재산도 재물도 명예도, 너를 미워하는 사람들의 목숨도 달라고 하지 않았구나. 오래 살게 해 달라고도 하지 않았어. 오히려 너는 지혜와 지식을 달라고 했어, 나의 백성을 재판하며 다스릴 수 있도록! 그들의 임금으로 내가 너를 세웠지. And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

¹²그 지혜와 그 지식을 네가 받을 것이다. 또 재산도 재물도 명예도 내가 너에게 줄 것이다. 너의 이전 임금들에게 이런 일이 없었다. 너의 이후 임금들에게도 이런 일은 없을 것이다.” Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

¹³솔로몬은 기브온에 있는 높은곳(산당) 만남의 천막을 떠나 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다. 그러고는 임금으로서 이스라엘을 다스렸다. Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel.

솔로몬이 모은 많은 재산들

¹⁴솔로몬이 전투수레와 말들을 모았다. 그에게는 1,400대의 전투수레와 12,000마리의 말들이 있었다. 그것들을 전투수레 두는 도시들에 두고 임금 곁 예루살렘에도 두게 했다. And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem.

¹⁵솔로몬 임금은 예루살렘에 은과 금을 돌처럼 흔하게 두었다. 또 삼나무(백향목)를 세펠라에 있는 돌무화과나무처럼 많이 두었다. And the king made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the vale for abundance.

¹⁶솔로몬의 말들은 이집트와 구에에서 들여온 것들이었다. 임금의 무역상들이 구에에서 값을 치르고 가져왔다. And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king’s merchants received the linen yarn at a price.

¹⁷그들은 이집트에서 전투수레를 사들였다. 그러고는 되팔기도 했다. 한 대의 값이 은 7.2킬로그램이었다. 말 한 마리의 값은 1.8킬로그램이었다. 마찬가지로 임금의 무역상들은 자신들의 손으로 히타이트 사람들의 모든 임금과 시리아 임금들에게로 그것들을 되팔았다. And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their means.
