28욥기 · 개역개정

지혜와 명철

¹은이 나는 곳이 있고 금을 제련하는 곳이 있으며 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it .

²철은 흙에서 캐내고 동은 돌에서 녹여 얻느니라 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.

³사람은 어둠을 뚫고 모든 것을 끝까지 탐지하여 어둠과 죽음의 그늘에 있는 광석도 탐지하되 He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.

⁴그는 사람이 사는 곳에서 멀리 떠나 갱도를 깊이 뚫고 발길이 닿지 않는 곳 사람이 없는 곳에 매달려 흔들리느니라 The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.

⁵음식은 땅으로부터 나오나 그 밑은 불처럼 변하였도다 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.

⁶그 돌에는 청옥이 있고 사금도 있으며 The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.

⁷그 길은 솔개도 알지 못하고 매의 눈도 보지 못하며 There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:

⁸용맹스러운 짐승도 밟지 못하였고 사나운 사자도 그리로 지나가지 못하였느니라 The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.

⁹사람이 굳은 바위에 손을 대고 산을 뿌리까지 뒤엎으며 He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.

¹⁰반석에 수로를 터서 각종 보물을 눈으로 발견하고 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.

¹¹누수를 막아 스며 나가지 않게 하고 감추어져 있던 것을 밝은 데로 끌어내느니라 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

¹²그러나 지혜는 어디서 얻으며 명철이 있는 곳은 어디인고 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

¹³그 길을 사람이 알지 못하나니 사람 사는 땅에서는 찾을 수 없구나 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

¹⁴깊은 물이 이르기를 내 속에 있지 아니하다 하며 바다가 이르기를 나와 함께 있지 아니하다 하느니라 The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.

¹⁵순금으로도 바꿀 수 없고 은을 달아도 그 값을 당하지 못하리니 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

¹⁶오빌의 금이나 귀한 청옥수나 남보석으로도 그 값을 당하지 못하겠고 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

¹⁷황금이나 수정이라도 비교할 수 없고 정금 장식품으로도 바꿀 수 없으며 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.

¹⁸진주와 벽옥으로도 비길 수 없나니 지혜의 값은 산호보다 귀하구나 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.

¹⁹구스의 황옥으로도 비교할 수 없고 순금으로도 그 값을 헤아리지 못하리라 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

²⁰그런즉 지혜는 어디서 오며 명철이 머무는 곳은 어디인고 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

²¹모든 생물의 눈에 숨겨졌고 공중의 새에게 가려졌으며 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

²²멸망과 사망도 이르기를 우리가 귀로 그 소문은 들었다 하느니라 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.

²³하나님이 그 길을 아시며 있는 곳을 아시나니 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

²⁴이는 그가 땅 끝까지 감찰하시며 온 천하를 살피시며 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;

²⁵바람의 무게를 정하시며 물의 분량을 정하시며 To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.

²⁶비 내리는 법칙을 정하시고 비구름의 길과 우레의 법칙을 만드셨음이라 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:

²⁷그 때에 그가 보시고 선포하시며 굳게 세우시며 탐구하셨고 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.

²⁸또 사람에게 말씀하셨도다 보라 주를 경외함이 지혜요 악을 떠남이 명철이니라 해설 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
